Child Starting To Add On Weight? 2 Tips To Help Slim Them Down And Keep Them That Way

Posted on: 24 February 2018

If your child is starting to add on some weight now you should step in and do what you can before things get out of control. The first thing to do is to start eating healthy and removing all junk food from your home. Do not tell your child that you are putting them on a diet but instead tell them the entire family wants to start eating healthier. Once you do this, your child then needs to become more active to get exercise. Below are two tips to help them get started.

Taking a Dance Class

If your child likes to dance, consider signing them up to dance class. There are a variety of dance styles they can choose from. One type that will really get them moving is hip-hop. Hip-hop music is very upbeat and as it is playing the instructor will teach your child different types of moves, such as breaking, locking, and popping. This type of dance will help your child lose weight in the abdominal area, as well as in their arms and legs.

If your child is not the type that would like hip hop but something much more subdued, then ballet would be a good choice. Ballet is not as energetic as hip hop, but your child will still use their muscles. For example, your child will have to stretch their muscles and as they do this stretch the muscles strengthen, which will tone your child's body.

You will find many dance studios in your area. Talk to them about this information and they can give you many more details.

Walking/Running

If your child is very out of shape they can start out walking and slowly build up the pace until they are walking fast. They should feel their heart beating while walking. If they do not, then they are not going fast as they should. They will also likely break out in a sweat which is a good thing as it shows they are working their body hard.

Once your child can walk briskly for a long period of time without becoming winded, ask them to start jogging. They should jog as far as they can until they become very winded. Each day they will build up their endurance and before long they will be able to run for a long period of time. This is important as running will burn more calories when compared to walking.

Take your child to their doctor before they start any type of exercise to make sure they are healthy enough to do this.
